Our Goal
Lore Lines was created by a group of friends who spend nearly every day going on about the lore in FINAL FANTASY XIV, analyzing the music, the characters, the settings, and speculating about the world’s past, present, and future.
After waking up to hundreds of Discord messages from each other, every day, over the course of months, we realized that maybe, juuust maybe, others might find it interesting to hear and join in on our discussions.
More and more, we’ve seen the FFXIV community divided over various aspects of the lore—even when certain matters have been explicitly confirmed by the game itself, or by Yoshi-P, Koji, and other members of XIV’s development team.
Despite all we’ve learned, and all that was told in Shadowbringers, there are many facets of XIV’s lore that causes debate—and sometimes that community debate gets well out of hand and ceases to be debate. Instead, it becomes arguing and attacks.
With Lore Lines, we wish to provide a more neutral and nuanced look at the lore of XIV. To take an in-depth look at what we know of the lore, how ‘the victors may have written history,’ and how it ties into the present situations of the game. We want to dive into the concepts of duality that this wonderful game presents us and see what this third path the Player Character is trying to follow.
After all, how does one walk a line between two deiform entities who are, according to Yoshi-P at the Announcement Showcase of February 2021, not exclusively tied to the concepts of Good and Evil?
There are many questions to dive into regarding this fantastic world that we all love, and we hope you will join us for the ride as we explore:
- Known, confirmed lore.
- Theorycrafting.
- Speculation.
- What we would like to see happen.
- What lingering questions we want answers to.
- Trailer analyses.
- Lyrical analyses.
- Metatextual analyses.
